What we have access to and what we wish we had
While this forum is about weapons, armor and transport, we should limit discussions about what we're going to use and why its the best thing for the situation. We all know what we'll be using and why we chose it. Mostly its because it was available and we could afford it.
The discussion of why a specific weapon is the best is our personal choice and opinion and should not be a lead in to major discussion on why its so cool or why we use it.
Basically, leave out the specifications and how cool it is. That only leads to more and more discussions that lead into arguments about why this is better than that and soon devolves into the constant 'dude, I got a minigun or I got an AK or I got a whatever and its so cool because I can pop Zeds from like 1000yds dude and that's way better than some .22 rifle or your cool ass knife'.
If we all agree that what we personally have access to and will use is sufficient to what we need it for and leave it at that.

Re: What we have access to and what we wish we had
Well, currently I'm working on my Z-Day combat kit. But so far I have an AK semi auto (Full auto is just rubbish, but the semi isn't much better) and a .22 with a scope on it. So for my AK it's just got an iron sight on it but it's got a telescopic stock to it so it can fit anyone. I've got 3 25 round mags, and about 200 rounds of ammo. (At 5 bucks a box of 20 that's not bad) And my .22 just has 2 10 round mags to it and a cheap $80 scope to it.

Re: What we have access to and what we wish we had
All I got is a .22 shotgun...
Once I get a license I'm gonna get a nice pistol... that's basically all one needs isn't it? I'd like to make a topic about that.

Re: What we have access to and what we wish we had
Currently, for weapons, I have a combat knife (sharpened)
and a desert eagle handgun with enough ammunition to fight a small army of zeds
In terms of body armour protection I have (NOTE: This is full combat gear that I would use only if I knew I was about to enter some type of combat with zombies. Putting this on would obviously take about 2 minutes minimum)
Body: Heavy leather trench coat (about 2 inchs thick) that runs dow to about my ankles. This can be buttoned up, providing 360o protection against any zombie bite or scratch (used in conjuction with a t-shirt and a sweater or two) Granted, this will be quite hot, but its a small price to pay for the protection of my vital organs. This will also provide warmth in any sort of cold enviroment (My arms will also be covered by the sleeves of both the sweater(s) and trenchcoat)
Lower body (legs): I have a pair of insulated cargo pants that would be warm, and they could be lined with long underwear in order to provide protection againt zombie bites and scratches
Lower body (Feet and most of the lower leg): I have combat boots that are good up to -30 and use lace to tighten up. I have also firmly attached a thin metal plate to the bottom of each one. This would allow for me to do some good face stomping and kicking should the need arise.
Hands: Leather gloves that are good up to -40 and I can move my hands freely in. (Meaning I can operate weapons and use knives and such)
Head: I have a beloclava (For those of you who dont know what that is, its a ski-mask that covers your entire head and has a mouth hole and eye holes) and to protect my neck I can wear a scarf that I will double layer to provide extra protection. As well, If the oppertunity arises I plan to obtain a S.W.A.T. sheild and facemask (This will most likley be obtained from the riot police that will probably be on the streets or be zombies who I kill)
Now I know that its gonna be AS HOT AS HELL in this getup, but like I said before, I will most likely only enter this gear if I know I am about to enter combat with more than one zombie/ enemy. I have tested this armour at paintball arenas and In hand to hand combat sessions with training dummies. I know that I can move freely and quickly in this armour, and I can also carry a backpack of supplys with me if it is needed

I'm sorry Remo(about what I'm going to say) but what the hell?! A "2 inch thick" TRENCH coat?!!! My thin as hell suede sports blazer weighs 8 pounds!! I'll pass on the 2 inch thick TRENCH coat without a second thought, just thinkin off the top of my head that thing must weigh at least 40 pounds if not more so let alone all your other gear you need to carry the same time. A preposterous concept methinks.

Re: What we have access to and what we wish we had
A 2" thick trenchcoat? I have no idea what you're talking about. My personal choice for protection is a modular hard shell crowd control armor which is light weight, durable, breathable and can be outfitted with MOLLE/ALCE and a camel back hydration system. That would only be if I had to enter an area or building full of Zeds. If not, I'm sticking with my BDU's, LBV, and body armor.
Here's what one model of modular hard shell crowd control armor looks like.

Yea that would have no use in mountain places like WV and Virginia which you'll probly go into (lowly populated) when slip and you'll never recover after carrying that all day

Well sir... youve convinced me
Despite the armour I have handy (I exxagerted a bit on the trenchcoat, its about a half inch) The S.W.A.T. armour would probably work better

Re: What we have access to and what we wish we had
There are several version of crowd control armor on the market, there is one that looks interesting besides the Damascus armor I pictured, I think its call Mawasi Armor, US Cavalry had some or you can find it at Streichers online, it has integrated communications and hydration and is meant to be worn for extended periods of time. While this type of armor may not be for everyone, there are other alternatives. Hockey pads or hockey gloves might work in pinch. Motorcross chest plates might work. Major Surplus and Survival had a set of leg and arm guards that were part of a crowd control set that was selling for less than $20.00.
In the event that this type of protection has to be used, the reason for it better be really good. If you live in a major populated area with no real way to leave in a Z event, then spend the cash and get the good stuff. You'll most likely need it.
For those of you who don't live in that type of area, there may not be a need to go all out on protective gear. Just remember that if you have to use it, make sure you can move in it and not get overheated very easily. You don't need to put all that gear on only to drop from heat stroke amidst a bunch of hungery Zeds.
