vehicles, alarms, immobilisers.

Post  Radien on Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:38 am

Ok so i watched zombieland today. i won't mention what happened to make this thought pop in my head

but anyway, lets say you're stuck in an area without a vehicle. and you had a long distance to travel, you'd try and take a car right?

the problem is 99% of modern vehicles are fitted with alarms, and most of them have immobilisers, which either require a chip in the key with a matching code, or a thob.

the last thing you want to be doing is setting of alarms and making sound.

we need to start compiling a list of safe "keyless" entry vehicles that we would be able to look out for while heading to our HQs

the format should be:
vehicle make, model
[front picture]
[rear picture]
[side picture]

even if you can't find all the pictures, just a picture where you can see atleast the front/rear/side would do, just something for quick indentification.
a picture would be necessary as alot of cars models are similar with only one or two changes.

p.s. i hope we don't have car theifs on the forums

You all know how to hotwire a car right? of course an abandoned car might be unlocked and have the keys in the ignition.

hot wiring cars is an easy task, but it can only be carried out on older vehicles, well over here in europe it anyway (which
means mercs, bmw, vovlo, ect) i'm not sure about american vehicles but most modern european vehicles are fitted with atleast one measure that removes the possibilty of hotwire.

so it isn't as simple as jump in the car hotwire it and drive off into the sun.

its more likely to be jump in the car, attempt to hotwire, set off the alarm, attract all the friendly local zeds, get ripped into little tiny bits, wish you had choosen a different car.

Ideally what you want is a keyless entry and keyless start, but it's probably a safe bet that most cars that have keyless entry will have keyless start as well.
I think the Nissan Micra has both.

Also; i saw zombieland yesterday and it's one of the best movies i've seen for a long time.

its the same over here.
But heres one to think about... its much easier to hotwire construction vehicles than most modern cars.
the wires are usually older and easier to cut and cross

A better question is: You have a hiding spot large enough to conceal a bulldozer?
Me and my cousin thought we were geniuses when we found a place to hide Playboys in gradeschool.

but the problem there is finding the zombie that has the thob in its pocket. you could spend a few hours hiding on a roof top and watching the car as the zombies walk by until eventually one walks by and it unlocks...

but the general idea of this thread is fast and smooth vehicle theft for when you "loose" your transportation or have to "borrow" one. keys and key thobs aren't going to be readily available.

the idea of construction vehicles is good, i may be wrong here but i think they also have much larger fuel tanks too to be able to work for most of the day... that would be nice.
