I think that would reduce its effectiveness as a battering ram. The blade would likely be ruined or get stuck in whatever you were trying to bash down.

The original design is pretty brilliant, though. I can hardly think of a better possible melee weapon/tool combination for use during a zombocalypse.

the top one, The Reaper if I had to pick one only because of the handle length that gives you more leverage, torque and optional gripping orientations and combat styles. Those prices are frickin ricidulous and most of them are just styled to appeal to flea-infested juggalos.
Man I have so many ideas in my head for forging weapons just waiting to get out, this reminded me that I also wanted to make a version of the Dwarven Halberd from the Morrowind game.

fuckin miracles.

I don't like the top one/reaver for the reason that I think the blades not long enough. It seems like in the heat of things it may be hard to aim correctly for the necl and sever it in one motion. It seems more useful as a jabbing spear based on the shortness of the blade. Which is why I like the apocalaxe its similar but with a longer heftier blade.

Ya I can see what ya mean. If I had my way with it I'd keep the length of the handle, double the length of the blade and then reverse the angle of the edge to give it a raven-beak/straight-scythe style. Oh gawd do I wish I lived someplace where I could set up a ramshackle forge, I'd totally make melee weapons for all of us just for shits and giggles. Most of the material I can get supercheap/free from junkyards, rail-yards, abandoned factories/plants and scrap lots, probably only charge y'all for S+H.

It's my aunt and uncles house and when I had my band practices here in the basement on saturday afternoons I got glared at by my aunt enough for that lol, they totally shot down my idea to erect a brick forge or any other type in the backyard. Thats why I been llokin for a place I can rent a room & ground from some ramshackle family on the edge of town where the looks of it wont matter but its hard to find those conditions lol

Martial arts

Post  DTyra on Sun Sep 05, 2010 12:58 pm

Aikido is the only martial art I can imagine being used against Zeds, it teaches you how to throw someone away from you with minimal contact. However, aikido dojos are few and far between. For post apoc maybe a mixture of Brazilian jui jitsu and akido would be appropriate.
