If the old systems have failed us why would we want to revert back to them?

Re: Anarchism....
I myself am a big fan of socialism. [/irrelevant]
I think it would be probable for the survivors to institute some collaborative fortified living. Think, like, taking over an office building or so. After time passes, there might be roving bands that try to annex your base into their network, but large government presence would largely be distrusted and minimal. I hope it's a worldwide epidemic, too- otherwise some unfriendly nations might seize the moment

why do you feel this way? please explain.
as for the OP, are you advocating Anarchy? if so, what do you personally feel is the best form of government, and can you give examples of such.

Re: Anarchism....
The type of government we need would depend on our goals for the world or the remaining survivors. So I think we would need a council. A simplified version like in older times. It would be dependable and it's not the kind of government that would eat away our remaining civil society. The members of the council would of course have to be long known trusted persons who have good judgement, and the like.

Re: Anarchism....
I like councils but maybe since smaller groups of people will be here and we should spread out more, kind of a mayor for each group and then we report in every so often to see if we could combine it would be idiotic to put everyone in one place then if one thing slipped up in a city we'd all be gone so we should look more into communication first

Re: Anarchism....
The most conceivable scenario I can see of a "functioning" group or society during and after zombipalooza would be pockets of an agrarian/familial clan based society with counsel: call them mayors, burgers, chieftains or whatever, They would listen to the majority as being the decision making method yet with power to make snap judgments when haste and priority are called for. Think Scottish Clans circa rennasance period or however thats spelt. similar to some of the above ideas. thats just how I would see it functioning, for me anyways.

Weirdbeard-
I mean that in the case of an extensive outbreak where >90% of the population succumbs to the zombie horde. The dynamics of everything would be totally changed, and I think a more communist model would be implemented by the survivors.

So communism or socialism? I don't think that marxist ideals would work, communism in theory would only work in a utopian state, but with human nature as it is such a state could not be reached regardless of whatever cataclysmic event were to happen. Communism doesn't work economically because the fact that the government is in complete control of all production and everyone gets the same no matter how hard they work or how lazy they are. Thus the incentive to work decreases dramatically. The country's wealth goes down, shortages occur, no inventions are produced (as the government would steal them away anyway, leaving no incentive) and the economy eventually collapses. Just look at the Soviet Union. Of course the fact that they were a harsh totalitarian dictatorship didn't help things much with them either. Eventually China will surely suffer the same fate.
Communism simply would not work the way Marx intended it because in a post apocalyptic world where the motto of "survival of the fittest" is engrained into the minds of everyone no matter where they live.

Well that's not entirely true. But it is more to kind of even them out. So for instance basketball players might not make any more money than a construction worker. And CEO's who make millions by sitting on their ass won't exist either as their pay would be lower. The more important you are the more money you make...to an extent. I'm really stoned trying to write this.

Re: Anarchism....
Pretty much. The only way communism or socialism would function would be the lack of a monetary system, of course the only society I ever saw pull this off (besides a couple hippie communes I have resided on) were the smurfs...

Re: Anarchism....
I don't discuss government here on a grand scale of hundreds or thousands. I'm theorizing for an autonomous refuge of <100 survivors, where the people would be willing to change social and political dynamics in order to survive to the best of their ability. And don't get me started on socialism.
