Wat.
Anyway... anyone know anything about organic farming? seems like the easiest long term solution to food is to pack a few seeds in their B.o.b's. Though the thought of playing in the garden with zeds running around is unpleasant to say the least, it's probably alot safer than foraging for everything.

I was planning on starting a garden on the roof of my safe-house (currently the closest Cost-Co)

Organic farming is pretty easy as long as you don't forget to rotate crops. It's not very useful for survival situations though, since I'm assuming chemical fertilizer will be in abundance. If the FFA taught me anything, it's that a corn field will produce about 7X more crops using chemical fertilizer then it will organically.
That being said, why not just travel to a farming community in the event of an outbreak? If it's remote enough, they prolly won't have trouble from the virus, and they would most certainly be self-sufficient. Farmers are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and if you say you need help, and offer to work HARD, they'll take care of you.

Im sorry but we must not have the same CostCo's. To easily compromised is something you would never sa if you saw mine. Huge Square Building with One single entrance (loading dock sized) that has steel doors, composed of windowless 5 foot thick concrete with roof access, inside there's refrigeration, running water, an entire pharmacy section, a kitchen, and many many more things. It looks more like a maximum security jail than a store. I would assume ours just bought out a very good warehouse or something but I saw it being build especially for CostCo. I wish I could get a picture to show you guys how seriously awesome a safe house it is but I cant

Re: Food Sources
hmm, costco is tempting. But it will still take alot of man power to maintain it. The plan definitely has potential but what I think is the biggest obstacle is getting the building under your control in the first place, the reason why I picked the liquor store is cause hell, I could take that place over myself if I find a way in. For costco... your gonna need a lot of dudes.

Besides the fact that you gonna need your bros, the place might already be filled with some other dudes, bad dudes...

If I can read between the lines like I think I can, I would think that you are thinking that the thought you are thinking is a thought that should have be thought about before but is still a thought so should need more thinking before you think that that thought is the best thought that was ever thought.

Re: Food Sources
I dunno about costco, never been to one, I think its like a publix, in any case, the huge department stores I've worked in Walmart/IGA/Kmart all have an upstairs in the back which usually has tons of shelves in there. heres the "Department store takeover" First task is to get in without breaking any windows or doors, once you're inside head to the back to the shipping area and take a pallet jack, use said pallet jack to move all the huge pallets full of cans of pop and dog food and the like up front, once you've got the major doors and windows relatively covered, go lock all the side and rear entrances and put some tape over a hair or string or whatever so when someone opens the door it breaks, alternatively you could figure out the buildings alarm but that will wait, also walmart has these little alarm things for windows I bet those would be good to get, anyways you get the place covered with the dog food bags and all that take a kids pool and start making quickcrete, start shreadding sheets and fencing and make sort of a concrete papermache over the windows and doors so nobody can open them, barricading can be easy make objects work for you but keep a way out, for example I used to sneak out the paper crusher at kmart to go smoke weed, in the back theres a room for all the cardboard and recycleables in that room is a door in the wall that goes to a huge trash compactor outside, you just keep it locked and before you have to escape make sure to crush anything thats found its way in there which is unlikely as you have to climb up about 10 feet outside then climb down the rings inside for about 30 feet, I doubt any zombies are going to be able to climb and if they can I hope they can't climb down a fall of 30 feet should break their legs at least, it would also be good for getting rid of them, just pitch em in and crush it up, of course you'd have to have access to a forklift to get rid of the resulting huge cube.

Re: Food Sources
Yeah... that's alot of work yo.
Liquor store takeover:
Seal entrances
???
Profit
Of course, we're both assuming the places will be empty when we get there.
Are you a bad enough dude to kick everyone out of Costco?

Re: Food Sources
I was planning on a group of about 100-150, like a small settlement to guard, and work, and farm. Costco alone can support that many for about 4 weeks after that I think I'll get a group to go out and forage. I of course have backup plans if Costco doesn't work.
